A computer is basically a machine designed to perform complex tasks on the fundamental basis of Boolean logic, dealing with integers 1 and 0. It consists of input devices like mouse and keyboard to provide input to the machine, output devices like speakers, monitor and printers to provide output to the user, and a central processing unit(CPU) which performs all the functions and co-ordinates all the activities of input and output devices to provide a user with the desired result of a particular process started by him/her.

The CPU consists of a memory unit for storing temporary and permanent files for the user, arithmetic and logic unit that handles all the logical processes and commands and a control unit which controls all the different components of a computer. Since they have become so widespread in use and pervaded all fields of human activities, it is of utmost importance to know how to operate a computer. It is advisable for anybody who does not know how to use one to join computer training classes from any good institute and learn basic computing skills.

It is believed that the first computer was invented nearly 2000 years back. The first computer was known as abacus in which formulated constructs were used to program beads.  During those days there were many historians who cautioned against the use of computer and waited until an understanding of computers was further given by a Frenchman in 1600s. This invention further paved way for the 19^th century computers.

Various studies and researches were made on computers since then. England was supported by the government to produce a variation in existing form of computers. A mechanical calculator was introduced that was powered by steam and supported only a fixed program. These changes had undergone several variations until the automatic calculator came into existence. After using the calculator for long period, the idea of a punch card was conceived in the minds of bureau workers.

Later, during the World War II, a German engineer, Konrad Zuse invented the first freely programmable computer or the modern computer in 1941. This computer was earlier used only in the military areas to design new weapons with effective computer technology. This computer was also used as a precise and clear channel of information. After the invention of this modern computer, further inventions with better technology and features were in progress.

In the year 1947, the first computer with RAM (Random Access Memory) was designed to access important information in seconds. Further the invention of magnetic ore memory and transistor circuits was discovered in 1950s. This invention was a breakthrough for the advancement in computers. The computers with better memory space, features and functionality were further discovered and were confined to mathematically based operations like accounting, payroll and billing. These were only used in commercial places such as hospitals.

1980s is believed to be the true period for invention of today’s modern computers with all the features, functions and large memory space. Desk computers with the use of micro chips and compact disc came into existence. IBM was the first international brand to enter the history of computers. Thereafter, Apple and Intel also paved their way to advanced technology of computers. After IBM, Apple and Intel, Microsoft entered the computer industry with leading edge, evolving technology and competitive price

Today, the use of computers is not restricted to only office desktops or laptops we see the use of computers all around us; be it microwave ovens, car engines, video games, telephones, watches, computers are being used in most of the appliances or gazettes that we use in our day to day living thereby making it the most important part of our lives. Education system is not an exception to the same.

Over the past few years the growth of the computer industry has been quiet remarkable and today it is the fastest growing industry in our economy. Moreover Internet has changed the way people work by giving them an access to various information on any subject be it any product, research or any other  technical information. It has also changed the way people use to communicate by overcoming hassles of the traditional mail or phone with the use of emails and chats or voice chats which are simple and very effective. Internet has also reduced the gap in the teaching process. Now with the use of internet we can have many online courses that are offered my teachers who are located across boundaries who give training through video conferencing thereby giving a personal touch to individuals who prefer to have a class room coaching but cannot afford to leave their current location.
